Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about switching to PureStalk science-backed plant-based straws made with CelluMeld™ technology.
Product Performance
PureStalk straws use 0.2 mm walls, thicker than many commodity PLA and PHA straws on the market, which often run 0.10–0.15 mm.
What you get:
- Superior strength and crush resistance during normal use
- Better performance with thick drinks, lid piercing, and stirring
- All-day rigidity without getting soggy like paper
- Consistent feel compared to premium plastic straws
Wall thickness is controlled during extrusion and verified on every production run. See our standards page for testing details.
PureStalk straws hold their shape and strength in beverages for a long time. The exact temperature performance depends on the product line.
PureStalk C-Series Performance:
- Cold beverages (32-65°F): 24+ hours - Excellent
- Room temperature (65-80°F): 24+ hours - Excellent
- Warm beverages (up to 110°F): 2+ hours - Good
- Hot beverages (110°F+): Not recommended - May soften
- No flavor transfer or aftertaste
PureStalk M-Series Performance:

- Warm beverages (up to 140°F): 2+ hours - Excellent
- Hot beverages (140°F+): Not recommended - May soften

Neither formulation gets soggy or collapses like paper straws, so the drinking experience stays consistent through the whole drink.
No. That's part of what makes PureStalk straws widely used. They have the same smooth feel, flexibility, and durability as regular plastic straws. Most customers don't notice the difference until you tell them.
How they match plastic:
- Smooth, non-porous surface
- Flexible without cracking
- No paper-like texture or taste
- Maintains shape under normal use
Yes. Our Jumbo (8mm) and Boba (12mm) straws are built for thick drinks and hold up well with high-viscosity beverages like:
- Thick smoothies and protein shakes
- Milkshakes and malts
- Bubble tea with tapioca pearls
- Frozen drinks and slushies
Plenty of smoothie shops have switched fully to our straws and haven't had customer complaints.
PureStalk straws are tested across a wide temperature range. Performance depends on the product line.
PureStalk C-Series:
- Cold: Down to 32°F (frozen drinks, ice cream floats) - Excellent
